COST Action CA16107 EuroXanth
In the framework of the EuroXanth activities, WG4 is devoted to evaluate and implement disease control measures based on the use of bioproducts and microorganisms against xanthomonads and Xylella fastidiosa, together with studies to reduce or eliminate populations of possible vectors.
EU PONTE and XFactors Projects
The EU H2020-funded POnTE Project (https://www.ponteproject.eu/) was established by 25 participating institutions promoting a multi-actor approach and transnational research collaboration. Its goal is to minimize the risk of introduction/impact of the emerging pests threatening EU flora, mainly in agriculture and forestry. The targets are: 1) Xylella fastidiosa and its vectors in olive, grapevine, citrus, stone fruit, ornamentals and landscape trees of high socio-economic importance; 2) ‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’ and its vectors affecting a number of strategic crops such as potato, tomato and carrot; and 3) Hymenoscyphus fraxineus (anomorph. Chalara fraxinea) and Phytophthora spp. seriously affecting broadleaf and conifer species in forest ecosystems.
The research results have been presented at different international and national conferences and meetings, and published in renowned journals. In addition, various trainings and workshops have been organized to raise the awareness of scientists as well as policymakers, growers and other stakeholders of the importance and impact of these pests.
